Safe sedation options
Sedation dentistry may be recommended for children who:
- Are very anxious or fearful
- Need complex or lengthy treatments
- Cannot receive treatment otherwise
There are several types of sedation available for children, and our dentists will discuss your child’s options with you so that you can find the type of sedation that is right for their needs. The most common form of sedation recommended for children is nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” which is a form of conscious sedation that helps your child feel at ease while also allowing them to remain awake and able to respond to instructions.
Pediatric dental sedation is very safe. Our dentists and team will provide you with instructions to help your child prepare as well as monitoring them closely during their appointment. We will also provide instructions to help your child recover after their treatment is complete.
After your child’s treatment, they will feel drowsy and groggy. Please have someone available to stay with your child after their appointment for several hours to continue monitoring them.
