Sedation dentistry involves the use of medications to help children manage anxiety, fear and discomfort while visiting the dentist and receiving treatment. We understand that dental appointments may be stressful or scary for children, and we offer sedation to help them feel at ease so they can receive the care they need without difficulty.
Your child’s comfort, safety and health are our top priority. Sedation dentistry is designed to help your child feel comfortable while they receive treatment so they can enjoy better oral health as well as having a more pleasant overall dental experience. Our dentists will typically recommend sedation for children who are extremely anxious or fearful, who require complex or lengthy treatments, or who cannot receive the care they need without sedation.
There are several types of sedation available, ranging from local anesthetics to general anesthesia. The most common type of sedation recommended for children is nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” which helps your child relax while remaining awake so they can follow any instructions our dentists and team give them. We will discuss your child’s options with you so you can make a fully informed decision about their care, and we will monitor your child throughout their appointment to ensure they remain safe and comfortable.
Here at Children & Family Dentistry & Braces, we are dedicated to helping your child feel at ease in the dental office. If your child is anxious or fearful, our dentists may recommend sedation dentistry to help them feel more comfortable and receive the treatments they need.
