THE AMERICAN DENTAL ASSOCIATION RECOMMENDS TWO CLEANINGS/EXAM A YEAR
Bone grafting is an oral surgery procedure recommended when the jaw is not dense enough or thick enough to support your teeth or dental implants. When you receive a bone graft, our dentists will transplant a piece of bone from another area of your jaw or body into your jawbone. The grafted bone tissue is typically taken from your own body, but artificial bone material may also be used if needed. Your jawbone will then mesh and grow together with the grafted bone tissue to provide a stronger and more stable foundation for your teeth and smile.
Bone grafting is typically recommended for individuals who have insufficient bone density. Your supporting bone may deteriorate due to tooth loss, periodontal disease or other factors. If this is the case for you, our dentists will provide a bone graft prior to providing you with a dental implant or other treatment to restore your smile.
Our dentists and team will take steps to ensure your comfort during your procedure, including the use of sedation dentistry. Most patients report that their bone grafting procedure was pain free as long as they took their medications and antibiotics as recommended.

The goal of bone grafting is to help you regain healthy supporting bone and ensure that your teeth and implants have a stable foundation. After a tooth is lost or extracted, the jawbone begins to resorb, or deteriorate, in that area. Bone grafts correct this deterioration, giving you back a strong, stable and healthy jawbone. Bone grafting is often required prior to dental implant placement and may also be needed if periodontal disease or another condition has caused your supporting bone tissue to be lost.
