What is IV sedation?

IV (intravenous) sedation is a form of sedation used to put you at ease without being asleep. This is safely administered through an IV, so the medication flows directly into the bloodstream. If you are planning to receive this sedation, our dentists and team will closely monitor you to ensure there are no complications.

How long do you feel the effects of IV sedation?

IV sedation is the strongest type of conscious sedation and can last several hours. Because of this, you should bring someone with you to drive you home and be with you for several hours after your procedure. We also encourage you to avoid operating any sort of vehicle for the next 24 hours.

What is IV sedation?

Our dentists may recommend IV sedation if you experience dental anxiety and want to feel relaxed during your procedure. This is safely administered through an IV to put you at ease while still remaining aware of your surroundings. Prior to receiving IV sedation, we will review your medical history and provide you with a list of pre- and post-op instructions, which we encourage you follow as closely as possible.

What is the goal of IV sedation?

The purpose of IV sedation is to enhance your comfort while we perform your treatment. After this has been administered into the bloodstream, our team will carefully monitor your vitals to ensure there are no complications. Because this type of sedation is very strong, you will be required to have someone bring you to your appointment to drive you home and remain with you until the sedation wears off.
