Questions & answers

Dental cleanings & exams

Why are dental cleanings and exams important?

Professional dental cleanings thoroughly remove hard plaque and tartar from your teeth. The bacteria trapped in plaque and tartar can cause tooth decay and gum disease, as well as other problems, so receiving routine cleanings is an important part of maintaining good oral health. Likewise, regular dental exams allow our dentists to monitor your oral health and ensure that any developing problems are diagnosed and treated as soon as possible.

What is plaque and tartar?

During your oral exam, our dentists and team will check your mouth for signs of developing problems, including tooth decay and gum disease. We also check your bite and take dental X-rays to fully examine your teeth and supporting structures. Depending on our findings, we may recommend additional treatments.

Regular dental cleanings and exams are vital to maintaining good oral health. Routine cleanings remove disease- and decay-causing factors from your mouth, such as the plaque and calculus that contain harmful bacteria. Plaque is soft and can be brushed or flossed away, but calculus must be professionally removed by a dentist or dental hygienist. Patients of all ages should receive dental cleanings and exams regularly.

X-rays

We use the most advanced dental technology available, including convenient 3D imaging and digital X-ray technology. These provide highly detailed images of your teeth and mouth and are also very safe for use. In fact, digital X-rays produce up to 90% less radiation than traditional film X-rays!

Intra-oral

Each examination room is equipped with an intraoral camera. This allows our dentists and team to view your mouth in great detail and help you understand exactly what is happening in your mouth.
