What are dentures?

Dentures are a removable oral appliance used to replace missing teeth. They are typically recommended to replace many or all the teeth in a dental arch and consist of prosthetic teeth set into a plastic or acrylic base. Dentures are designed to fit your mouth comfortably to restore both your smile and oral function.

What kinds of dentures are available?

Our dentists will discuss with you your options for dentures during your initial consultation. There are several types of dentures available, including:

  • Complete dentures, which replace all the teeth in your upper or lower dental arch.
  • Partial dentures, which are recommended to replace some teeth when you still have natural teeth remaining.
  • Immediate dentures, which are recommended to replace teeth immediately after tooth extraction.
  • Implant-supported dentures, which are anchored in place through the use of dental implants.

How do I take care of my dentures?

Our dentists will provide you with instructions on how to care for your dentures after you receive them. This includes keeping your dentures clean, rinsing them in water, covering them in water when not wearing them, not making adjustments to the dentures on your own and regularly inspecting your dentures for damage or signs of wear. Our dentists will also check your dentures at your regular appointments to determine if repairs, adjustments or other maintenance are needed.

Dentures might be just what you need

Dentures are removable oral appliances that replace multiple missing teeth. There are two main types of dentures that our dentists may recommend:

  • Complete dentures — these are used to replace all your teeth in a dental arch. You may receive dentures for one or both dental arches depending on your needs, and you may need to use a denture adhesive for improved stability.
  • Partial dentures — these are provided when you have some natural teeth remaining. Your partials will include a framework or clasps that attach to your natural teeth to give your dentures a more secure and stable fit.
